Newman joins the 1000 point club:

The varsity boys basketball team was hyped up for their matchup with the Cooperstown Hawkeyes for two reasons; one, this was one of Herkimer’s toughest games this season, and two, everyone knew that senior Derek Newman was six points away from 1000 points. It was late in the second quarter when Newman got a breakaway layup for his 1000th point. The gym was overcome with excitement, including his family who was in attendance for the game. Newman became the fifth player in Herkimer Boys Basketball history to join the club. Other 1000 point club members include: recent graduate Mitchell Sherer, Jeff and Marc Sidney, and John Adamson. Congratulations Derek on a great accomplishment.
