Spring sports are finally here. Tennis is one of those sports that is often brushed off to the side due to its lack of participants. Todd Maphia, a junior, has confidence in his team this season.
Todd’s been playing tennis for Herkimer High School for three years now. This year’s team lacks upperclassmen; there are no seniors for the 2017 tennis season for Herkimer. When asked about his perspective on the season without any seniors, Maphia responded, “My perspective only changed because the seniors that had left were my brothers.” With the loss of other players, the team welcomes new players. There are three new tennis players joining the four returning players from last season. “Our small numbers make us a force to be reckoned with,” Todd Maphia stated with confidence when asked about lack of depth in their roster.
Tennis is not only a team sport, but also a very competitive individual sport, not only with other players from different schools, but with teammates as well. Todd’s individual goal for the season is to make sure that the whole team has a great time playing the sport. Hopefully everyone shares Todd’s attitude towards this sport. Good luck to Todd and the rest of the 2017 Herkimer Tennis team.
